Need Help?

Welcome to our new website. While we are working to update the website and make it more accessible, we understand that you may occasionally have problems accessing the information you want. If you have any questions that aren't covered in the topics below, please send us an email and we will respond as soon as we possibly can.

"I get an error on a page that was previously available on your site."

Oh dear. Such accidents are almost guaranteed to occur whenever a website undergoes a large redesign. Please email us to let us know what link is broken, and we will do our best to either fix it or redirect you to the new location of the page. Thank you for your patience!

"Why do I see a message about my browser not being compliant with web standards?"

Our site has been rebuilt to comply with web standards established by the World Wide Web Consortium and to meet accessibility guidelines established by Section 508. Compliance with these standards will not only insure that our site is usable across different platforms, but will also help to improve the load time and accessibility of the site. If you are using an older browser (such as Netscape 4 or Internet Explorer 4), you will still be able to access our content, but you will not have the aesthetic benefit of our stylesheet. Upgrading your browser to a more current version isn't required, but we would recommend doing so at some point. Listed below are some options for various platforms:

"What is Adobe Acrobat reader? Why do I need it? Where can I get it?"

Adobe Acrobat reader is an application that will allow you to view portable document files (PDFs). Many of the resources on our site are published in this format because it allows for easy printing from any computer that has Acrobat reader installed. The reader software is free and available from Adobe's website for a number of different operating systems.

"How do I get back to ...?"

Underneath the search bar on every page (except our homepage), you will find a navigational trail that should help you keep track of where you are in our site and, if necessary, help you get back to where you started.

"The text is too small to read on my monitor!"

Typography is always one of those troublesome areas on the web, so we've provided a nice tool for those of you who want to increase your font size - the Text Resize bar:

Text Resize bar

Located in the top left (just under our logo), you can change the size of the text by clicking on one of the progressively larger Ts. Note that you will need Javascript enabled on your browser in order to use this feature. Alternately, if you are using a browser other than Internet Explorer, you can change the size of the text by going to the View menu and choosing a larger setting under Text Zoom or Text Size.

"How can I find information about a specific topic?"

Most likely, the fastest way to find information on our website about a specific topic is to use the search bar located at the top right (just to the right of the Help link that brought you here).

Search bar

To use this feature, simply click in the white search box and type the text you want to search for, then press enter or click the word "GO" beside the search area.

"How can I contact the VALRC?"

You can contact us through our contact page - simply choose the topic from the dropdown box that relates best to your question or comment, fill in your name, email address, and a message and click the "Send message" button. If you want to send email to a specific staff member, you can click the email link on the staff page next to that person's name.
