As the ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Specialist at VALRC, Nancy's efforts are directed toward providing support for Virginia's ESOL programs and their staff in the areas of professional development, assessment, curriculum, and instructional resources. With the New Teacher Orientation Program, she hopes to assist newcomers to the field when they need it the most.

Nancy has lived in Virginia for almost five years since moving from Durango, Mexico, where she lived and worked for 25 years. She taught EFL (English as a Foreign Language) at the Universidad Juarez del Estado de Durango to high school students and adults. She has a BA in history from Elon College, NC; an MA in history from Boston College, Mass.; and an MA in TESOL from the University of London. She loves working with people from all over the globe, especially refugees with very limited English skills.

In the evenings and on the weekends you can usually find Nancy working out at the gym, jogging around her neighborhood, or working in her yard (the first one that she has ever had). Nancy spends many moments with her three Siamese cats, Kiwi, Wiki and Buffy, who she brought with her from Mexico.
