- CareerConnect is a
customer service network funded by the Virginia Employment Commission and
local Workforce Investment Boards. It is designed to assist workers,
students, individuals seeking employment, and employers with educational,
employment, and career-related information.
- Learning Disabilities Association
of Virginia is a state-level affiliate of the Learning Disabilities
Association of America (LDA), which focuses on enhancing educational and
vocational services for individuals with learning disabilities.
- Library of Virginia serves as
the reference library to government offices and citizens and is the
archival agency of the Commonwealth.
- The Regional Literacy Coordinating Committees
(RLCCs) represent all fourteen areas of the Commonwealth and are
used to develop cooperative action between public and private
partners at the local level.
- The Virginia Rehabilitation Center for
the Blind & Vision Impaired provides comprehensive adjustment
services to severely visually-impaired Virginians.
- The State Corporation Commission
has given the Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center a grant to develop
a statewide consumer education program that introduces Virginia's
Energy Choice and seeks to educate the public about choices they have
as to what utility provides their electricity and natural gas.
- Verizon Foundation supports
programs that create innovative eSolutions, help bridge the digital divide,
foster basic and computer literacy, help enrich our communities, and
create a skilled workforce. Verizon
Reads is the umbrella organization for Verizon's national literacy
platform.
- Virginia
Literacy Foundation supports the work of private, volunteer literacy
efforts in the Commonwealth, including the provision of technical
assistance and training and funding programs through a competitive grants
process.
- External
Diploma Program of Fairfax County assists residents completing the
External Diploma Program and passing the Literacy Passport Test.
- Longwood College Institute
for Teaching through Technology and Innovative Practice (ITTIP) works
with teachers and administrators in rural Virginia to research and
develop innovative teaching and learning tools.
- Virginia Career & Technical
Education Resource Center supports career, technical, and
occupational-technical preparation programs by providing resources for
curriculum development and program design and implementation.
- Virginia Adult Learning Resource
Center (VALRC) provides core instructor training, regional and
statewide workshops and meetings; assists with management and
professional development; maintains a lending library and clearinghouse;
runs a statewide literacy information hotline; and offers technical
assistance to adult education and literacy providers.
- Virginia Community College System
provides comprehensive higher-education and workforce-training programs
and services that are accessible and meet individual, business, and
community needs.
- Virginia Education Network
provides citizens of the Commonwealth with access to all education-related
resources located within state government.
- Virginia Institute for Social
Service Training Activities (VISSTA), part of the School of Social
Work at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), develops curricula and
arranges training through area training centers for human service
providers in Virginia.
- Virginia Skill Centers and Employment
Training Programs provide entry-level training in different
occupational programs to unskilled, economically disadvantaged, or
unemployed youth and adults.
- Virginia's
Training and Technical Assistance Centers (T/TAC) seek to improve
educational opportunities and contribute to the success of children and
youth with disabilities.
- Workforce Improvement
Network supports the field in creating new workforce education
relationships and programs by developing a network for providing training,
developing curricula, developing electronic connections, and marketing
support.
- The Department of Social Services
serves Virginia's citizens in need through local welfare agencies, which
deliver services to foster independence, nurture human dignity, create
and maintain stable environments for children and families, and promote
responsible parenting.
- Virginia Department of Correctional
Education has adopted the mission of providing quality educational
programs that enable incarcerated youth and adults to become responsible,
productive, tax-paying members of their communities.
- Virginia
Department of Education, Office of Adult Education and Literacy
provides leadership and support for adult education and literacy services,
with special focus on expanding the availability of quality family
literacy and workforce education programs.
- Department of Rehabilitative Services
administers programs that offer a broad range of services to individuals
with disabilities to enhance opportunities for independent living,
including identifying appropriate assistive technologies and preparation
for finding and keeping jobs.
