Online Education Opportunity

Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Education and its Office of Continuing Education and the Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center will offer a three-semester program of online coursework and practicum for a cohort of 20 participants. Five 3 credit hour courses and practicum focus on adult education and are designed to meet requirements for:

1. 15 credit Adult Education Endorsement to a VA DOE K-12 license.
2. 12 graduate credits toward a 36 credit hour Masters in Adult Education from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Education.
3. "Certificate of Completion in Adult Education" from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Education.
4. Recertification credits for VA DOE K-12 license.

The following courses will be delivered in a Blackboard platform and offered sequentially. All courses are delivered online.

Fall Semester 2003

• The Adult Learner (ADLT 601)
  • Foundations of Adult Education
• Topics in Education: Introduction to Basic Adult Education Concepts (TEDU 651)
  • Reading for Adults
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Math for Adults

Spring Semester 2004

• Curriculum Development for Adult Education
  • ABE/GED
  • Other adult basic skills for special populations
    • Speakers of English as a Second Language
    • Learning-Disabled
    • Family Literacy
    • Corrections
• Writing Instruction for Adult Learners

Summer Semester 2004

• Practicum

Tuition Projection

Tuition is based on a reduced off-campus rate for a cohort of 20 participants: $1,500 per student, $300 per person for a 3 credit hour course [Compared to off-campus rate: $456 per person for a 3 credit hour course].
