Karyn DeParis

Karyn DeParis currently teaches, trains teachers and develops curricula for Fairfax County’s Adult and Community Education E.S.O.L. Program.  She has piloted and worked on revisions of all sections of this EL/Civics curriculum.  Karyn also taught E.S.O.L. and developed curricula for EL/Civics at the Arlington Education and Employment Program (REEP) for two years.  Karyn has a Masters in Adult Education from Virginia Commonwealth University (V.C.U.).  Prior to receiving her Master’s Degree, she taught E.F.L. in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, at the Mongolian Pedagogical University.

Betsy Lindeman Wong

Betsy Lindeman Wong teaches adult E.S.L. for Alexandria (VA) Community Education. She has also taught in Fairfax County's E.S.O.L. family literacy and A.B.E. programs. In Fairfax County’s High Intermediate and Advanced EL/ Civics curriculum, she wrote for the Government and Consumer Awareness modules.  She has also written Fairfax County's family literacy curriculum and the Consumer modules of the Beginner EL/Civics curriculum. She taught E.F.L. to French high school students for two years and has taught adult E.S.L. for nine years. In addition to teaching, she has worked as an editor for Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD).

Kate Singleton

Kate Singleton currently trains teachers and develops curricula for Fairfax County’s Adult and Community Education E.S.O.L. Program.  She has taught all levels of adult E.S.O.L for 16 years in Virginia and Maryland.  Her research focuses on improving adult health literacy and access to health care, and she wrote the health awareness modules in this curriculum and in the Beginner EL/Civics curriculum.  In addition to giving trainings on health literacy for E.S.O.L. teachers, Kate is authoring a resource manual for Virginia adult education instructors on health literacy instruction.  She is pursuing a Master's in Clinical Social Work Virginia Commonwealth University (V.C.U.) so that she can counsel adults on coping with health-related challenges.
