Internet Premodule Introduction

This Internet Premodule provides some basic exposure to Internet terminology and applications. As the primary purpose of this curriculum is to help students develop English literacy while increasing community awareness and participation, the writers are not able to provide an exhaustive introduction to Internet use. It is anticipated that for some learners, instructors will need to supplement the lessons provided in this Premodule to provide a more complete introduction to computer keyboarding and navigating the Internet. For other learners with more Internet experience, these lessons may prove too basic. For these learners, web sites providing more challenging Internet skills practice as well as sites with independently accessible activities for other skill areas are listed in Appendix C.

As with learning the English language, learners gain comfort on the computer at different speeds, and each has a different learning style. It is best to let learners progress at their own pace. Learners with more advanced computer skills can be paired with less-skilled classmates to help with computer instruction.

Teachers and students alike may want to use websites in Appendix C that offer additional information on computers and using the Internet.
