A Short Story
by Anonymous

I remember when I was a little boy in my native country Haiti, every student had to wear a uniform to school. My mother tried her very best to finish sewing my uniform, but I had to stay home because it was not finished. This made me cry. I wanted very much to be in school, so I could be something in my life.

When I was finally able to be in school I worked very hard. I graduated from high school and went to college. When I received a letter from the immigration service, I got my passport and a ticket to fly to the United States.

I have been working very hard learning to speak English more smoothly and fluently. I hope some day to become an American citizen and maybe get married.
