Steven Boyd's tutor is Rosemary Krause. Rosemary says that Steven has come a long way. He makes her proud to have him as a student.
It started when I found my girlfriend cheating on me. I found her and my brother-in-law together. We broke up and I started doing things on my own. I used to do a lot of drugs and I was riding down a country road and had a heart attack. While driving my car, I hit a pine tree and it left me unconscious and one of my friends found me in the wreck and he was on the rescue squad. He called the Fincastle Rescue Squad. They picked me up and took me to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. I was in a coma for twenty-eight days.
While I was in the coma, my brother was driving a truck for James River Limestone Company and something happened to the truck and he jumped out and the truck rolled over on him. I never got to go to his funeral because I was in a coma. After that they sent me to the rehabilitation center. I was there for three months.
They had to teach me how to walk, talk, and shower, etc. Then I left there and went to Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center. I was there for six weeks. I graduated with flying colors because I improved quickly. In October of the same year, my mother died of a heart attack. I did go to my mother's funeral.
At Interim Employment, I met Tim, a fellow Christian. He helped me with my job at Jacuzzi. I was hired full time. At Jacuzzi I was a grounds worker. I met a man named Mark, his wife, Joann and Joshua. They were very good Christian people. He got me started going to First Baptist Church and I started going to Bible study to change my life. He got a job in Charlottesville in the ministry. While I was going to church, I met lots of good people.
Then, one Sunday morning when I was going to singles class, I met this girl named Joanna and she said she was having Bible study at her home. I asked her could I join in with them and she said, yes she would love to have me to start going. So, every Wednesday at 7 o'clock we would meet. And, they are good people, too. And they said that I was an inspiration to them. Me and five others, Joanna, Renee, Katherine, Ricky, and Hank were there. They say Hank has 3-4 weeks to live and Renee's boyfriend, Norman, is in the hospital. Norman has a brain tumor that affects the part of your brain that controls sleep and breathing. Eventually, he will go to sleep and stop breathing.
With all that has happened to me, I feel very lucky to be able to share my story with you.
