Virginia Institute for Lifelong Learning (VAILL)
Radford, VA
Program Managers, Teachers, Tutors
Plan now to attend “RACE to the GED” - Virginia Institute for Lifelong Learning (VAILL) 2005 to be held on the campus of Radford University, July 11-13. The program is packed with learning opportunities for YOU. No matter what your role - program administrator, teacher, aide, volunteer, staff - there is something for everyone. The agenda offers many in-depth workshops on very current topics. The planning committee has worked to provide strands throughout the schedule so you can find workshops that not only focus on a particular topic but also what you need to know about that topic based on your role in your program. Seating in each workshop will be limited to 30. This will allow our presenters to prepare adequate materials for participants. We will be offering some sessions twice to accommodate the most participants.
Dr. Yvonne Thayer will join us to give an update on programming in Virginia. The institute culminates with a reading and book signing by New York Times best-selling author Sharyn McCrumb. Ms. McCrumb, a Virginia writer best known for her Appalachian ?Ballad? novels, including New York Times Best Sellers She Walks These Hills and The Rosewood Casket, has based her new novel on another Southern tradition: stock car racing. The planning committee is still working to confirm a few surprises for participants.
Funding for VAILL is provided by the Virginia Department of Education's Office of Adult Education and Literacy and covers the costs for participant housing, meals, workshop materials, presenters, etc. In other words, all you need to do to attend is fill out the registration form, include payment for the activity fee, and arrange for travel to and from Radford. For very little cost, you can be a part of a quality learning environment designed just for you.
